International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2025 — POLYKEY Participating in Various Local Events

Last week, our team had the privilege of participating in several events to celebrate and promote women and girls in science, starting with the event Mujeres científicas de ayer y de hoy, which was organized by Emakumeak Zientzian in San Sebastián.

The stories shared on pioneering women in science were truly inspiring and reinforced our commitment to supporting and celebrating women in science.

Thank you to all the organizers and speakers (Martina Corso, Harritxu Gete Ugarte, Oihane Mitxelena Iribarren, Nagore Barrena Orueechebarria, and Arantza Muriana) for such a motivating experience. Later this same week, our Scientific Director, Coralie Jehanno, attended an inspiring roundtable on female leadership also organized by Emakumeak Zientzian. The event, presented by Sonia Alonso-Martin, featured Ana Zubiaga, professor at the UPV/EHU, Itziar Vergara, the scientific director of Biogipuzkoa, and Aitziber López Cortajarena, the scientific director of CIC biomaGUNE, who shared their remarkable journeys as women leaders in science.

Their stories were both motivating and empowering, reminding us that the path to success is never a straight line and that female leadership brings fresh perspectives and empathy to the field.

A key takeaway was that, as women, we need to break free from impostor syndrome—we are just as capable, if not more, than the other half of humanity! On that same day, the week ended perfectly with a session at El Regato School in Barakaldo, where our General Director, Andere Basterretxea, introduced chemistry to primary school students. It was amazing to witness their enthusiasm for science, a subject they already adored! A heartfelt thank you to the school for the invitation and for allowing us to share our passion with the future women scientists.

These events were part of the activities to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2025 #11F, and we’re proud to have contributed to this important week!
