Coatings are essential in the multi-material laminates industry, providing flexibility in lamination processes and innovative product design. However, traditional adhesion primers pose significant challenges for recyclability at the product’s end-of-life. The PlasmaCola project addresses this by developing sustainable-by-design plasma coatings that act as advanced adhesion primers and adherent artificial solid electrolyte interfaces. These coatings enhance the cyclability of solid-state batteries while enabling easier material recovery. By utilizing plasma deposition techniques, adhesion promoters derived from the chemical upcycling of mixed plastic waste are designed to enable on-demand debonding, facilitating the recycling of multilayered packaging. This innovation supports the transition to a circular economy, fostering collaboration among local companies with shared sustainability goals, promoting best practices, and optimizing resource use to drive environmentally responsible advancements in the materials industry.
