The core concept of the SALAMANDER project is to develop and integrate embedded sensors and self-healing functionality in Li-ion batteries (LIB) to enhance their quality, reliability, and lifetime. To achieve this goal, the project will focus on developing a battery with two key functionalities: 1) embedded self-healing capability to repair chemical, mechanical, and electrical connectivity damage and 2) a sensing capability that can detect when such irreversible damage occurs and then, through the BMS, trigger the self-healing functionality through an external stimulus
